吉田宿は東海道五十三次で江戸日本橋から34番目の宿駅です。
吉田城の城下町であったほか、「吉田通れば二階から招く、しかも鹿の子の振り袖が」などと詠われ賑わう宿場でした。
戦災等で当時の面影はほとんど失われ、かつての宿場の東西それぞれに再現した惣門が復元されています。豊橋市内には吉田宿のほか、この東隣りの宿として二川宿があります。
